sun baked cardigan

1. 2. while i was knitting this cardigan, many customers commented to me that it looked like it would rather fit a child.
i had the whole shebang on one circular needle at the time and had to insist that it was meant for me. each time i had this conversation, i got a doubtful look in return.
well, TADA! it does indeed fit.

3. len is working on a new chalet project in the yard and i had to interrupt the nice log builder man for this photo shot since my children were 'too busy'...

4. the month of july has been lace knitting. a cutie of a tank top from last years BERGÈRE DE FRANCE catalogue. i am almost done. knitting lace is pretty great.

Les Ciseaux de Coco : two bridesmaid dresses

from left :  the second and the fourth dresses were made by me

my beautiful niece Melissa (center)

a peek at the skirt gathers and the beautiful bride Amy!
as promised, i wanted to share with you my big secret sewing project! McCall's M6029

my month of june was spent zigging and zagging along with mr. janome because i made two bridesmaid dresses in three weeks that i sewed at the knitting shop nonestop between customers.

i had the girls come to my knitting shop on saturdays for fittings.
i made both dresses three times. once was the muslin, the second was the fashion fabric and organza lining version which we decided was not the best choice for the lining in this case. the fashion fabric felt so soft and lovely on it's own that we decided to go with all satin and thankfully i had extra meterage to play with.

the bodices needed to be boned and tailored. i had to adjust the dress sizes without any extra fittings so i hardly slept a wink from the anxiety until the last day when VOILÀ it all came together and the girls left the shop with the dresses THE NIGHT OF THE DRESS REHERSAL.

deep breath

so now, i am sick of sewing strapless gowns.

the whole last week of sewing, all i could think of was how much i missed knitting. how happy i would be when i could cast-on something really fun. that turned out to be a lace tank top and let me tell you, it is gooooood.

my next big sewing project is a WEDDING DRESS for May 2013. i have lots of small projects to sew for myself in the meantime but in this heat, i can't seem to start. my sewing room is like 'satan's armpit'.
...but i get up early each morning to have coffee with my pups and i knit a few rows of lace before the kids spring to life.

Thanks to Amy for sharing these pictures of her beautiful wedding day so i could post this on my blog.

time in the garden

1. i love nothing more than drying my load of wash on the line. we have a surface well which means i need to be ever so careful of water consumption. every load needs to be planned and done first thing in the morning when the well is at its fullest. len has relocated my umbrella clothes line to the garden and this makes me happy. the neighbours can't see my undies now.

2. the garden is still in early stages. len made cute little wooden pegs around the seeds and plants and he hooked up a pump to the rainwater container with a fancy spray nosel. wow, what a difference it makes! my patty pan plant has died. and the beetles are taking over. the chickens won't come in the garden because i chased them out once...i think i will have to sacrifice my horseradish. we never harvest it and the beetles are hiding in the leaves i think...

3. the apple tree is much bigger this year! a nice place for an afternoon nap.

4. echinacea is starting to bloom. i really need to sort out that flower bed. the iris is taking over and the spirea has gone wild. the lilies are happy.

how does your garden grow?

Happy Birthday to the wrong *Alys*

1. Out on the town with my girls. We celebrated my birthday at Feleena's for Mexican Food and Ice Cold Margaritas!

2. Big surprise that made me cry was the BEAUTIFUL cake that Melissa made inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night painting! Many thanks to Donna, Melissa and Amy for hatching the idea and laboring over it for hours...too pretty to eat but it is DELICIOUS!

3. Vanilla and Gluten Free too.

4. Make a Wish! Love and Rain please...

5. My sister Donna surprised me with an Alys Fowler Gardening Book!!! I love Alys! Everything about her is beautiful and inspirational. Len laughed because he said, if you saw how Aline gardens, you would know she is no Alys... and Ivy churped up and said Mum is the Wrong Alys! (like in Alice in Wonderland when she kept insisting that she was the wrong Alice). Anywho - if you like that movie as much as WE do, you might get that humour... Oh! I am so happy!

6. My Godparents Aunt Lily and Uncle Vel made it to the party!!! So pleased to see them and William too. xoxo. We haven't posed for a photo together since my wedding. Ahem. They said I've gotten shorter.

7. I am having cake for breakfast and reading all about compost and homemade PH test using red cabbage juice, it's wonderful! Thank you for the lovely gifts. I got EARRINGS!!!! (somebody listens to me!) bath products and a Fabulous 40 mug...

I am off to go boating now...
