happiness is Chez Nous







1. the kids are growing up so much so that, we have been enjoying some time alone with our youngest for the first time... it has been a loooong time since we've been a party of three plus pets!

2. the first time Ivy (our first) saw the sun reflected on a lake at the age of three she exclaimed 'Magnifique!' and since that day when we see this beautiful sight, we see it through her child-eyes.

3. roxie's first boat ride. we had not planned on having engine trouble (again) but it has become our motto this summer. this weekend, len forgot to add oil and puttered out on our way to our spot. We had to paddle home at the end of the day... ours is not a CANOE ... not fun but oh such an adventure for a wee lad and his dog! we are thankful the engine is fine. that was a relief.

4. gage caught a fish and roxie enjoyed having a peek. it was a first for her. she enjoyed the supervised dips. it was a scourching week.

5. romeo spent all day with such a big grin on his face ... he loves this island getaway weekend business. bonus fun having another dog to run with and share roasted chicken.

6. back to business and the unveiling of the new counter at the shop. len made this beautiful piece from a yard sale find and some lumber and it has given the front room a whole new look and much needed space.

7. homemade lasagna in my new pan. enough for three meals for us.
sauce : 1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 lb ground beef or 1 lb of ground tofu
brown meat in pan with water. don't over cook. drain and place in dutch oven on low heat to simmer.
1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
1 small can of tomatoe paste
1 398 ml can of tomato sauce with herbs
1 lunch size can of V8 juice
2 bay leaves
Salt, oregano, pepper, basil to taste
1 tsp. curry powder
1 tsp. chili powder
Add vegetables...
2 stalks of celery chopped
1 small pack of fresh mushrooms
1 medium onion chopped
4 garlic cloves chopped or crushed
Simmer for hours...
prepare ricotta cheese mixture...
1 container of ricotta cheese
1 egg beaten
salt & pepper to taste and a dash of ground cayenne pepper
set aside...
once sauce has reduced about an hour before dinner
prepare the lasagna noodles

in baking dish place a noodle layer over a thin amount of sauce.
cover generously with sauce
layer of noodles
spread with cheese mixture
layer of noodles
cover with remaining sauce
layer of noodles
sprinkle with mozarella and parmesan cheese
bake at 350F for 30 minutes
Let stand for 15 minutes, enjoy!

8. my new Swing Cardi in linen. i tweaked the pattern to accommodate the gauge difference and i tidied up the sleeves for practical purposes. i crocheted the opening edge with hoops for fastening the buttons. the neck opening band is larger than the original.

am now knitting white bunny slippers...

Mais tu as un nouveau comptoir à la boutique, il est merveilleux !! Il faut que je passe faire un tour absolument. Profite bien de ton été, ton jardin est magnifique, tu devrais me donner des cours de jardinage, je suis une catastrophe en la matière ...

-i found this pan in an AVON catalogue. It came with a spatula. I think you can buy these elsewhere too. it is very deep and allows 3 different kinds of lasagna at once!
